Description: The Managing Director (Chief of Operations) serves as the operational and administrative colleague of the Director. Together, they form the leadership team of the YPCCC and work closely with each other to achieve the program’s goals. Reporting to the Director, the MD/COO manages the day-to-day activities and operations of the YPCCC and supervises administrative and communications staff. Provides leadership and vision to the YPCCC’s environmental communication and climate change communication goals and objectives. Responsible for overall direction and support of the mission, program development, program management, public relations and marketing, communications, facilities, information systems, administrative advocacy and development strategy.
Program Development:

Provides key input to YPCCC development (fundraising). Assumes primary responsibility for submission of and reporting on grants and contracts; cultivates current and prospective sponsors/funding sources

Gives direction and provides leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives of YPCCC in order to sustain and grow the program.

Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and consultants to further develop and implement strategic plans for YPCCC growth and organization.
Operations:

Develops and sustains the administrative infrastructure of the program, navigating relationships and negotiating workstreams with a team of 22 FTE and a ~$4 million annual operating budget.

Manages human resource functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance, professional development, counseling and discipline, if warranted.

Oversees YPCCC administrative staff in ensuring smoothly functioning of information systems, scheduling, calendar coordination, and addressing space needs.

Oversees timely submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, from the pre-proposal stage to interim and final narrative and financial reporting.

Assumes overall responsibility for developing and managing YPCCC’s people and operating budget. 6. Holds primary accountability for developing YPCCC’s annual operating budget and for all financial tracking and reporting.
Communications:

Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and collaborative support of the program.

Coordinates with colleagues managing YPCCC’s contact management programs (Salesforce and Mailchimp).

Coordinates with YPCCC teams to maintains strong digital presence, including website, social media, and email announcements.

Fosters strong collaborative relationships with communication teams at YPCCC and YSE.

Promotes YPCCC insights and activities, within and outside the university, including serving as spokesperson and YPCCC representative.
Program Management:

Oversee key programs at YPCCC such as the YCEC Speaker Series, the Public Voices Fellowship on the Climate Crisis, the Pulitzer Center Fellowship, visiting scholars, and other priority engagements of the program for example at UNFCCC COPs.

Manage YPCCC’s administrative team: With the Director, supervise the Research Project Manager to keep research project deliverables on track and streamline team scheduling. Manage YPCCC’s Financial Coordinator largely on PO and other payment obligations. Manage YPCCC’s Program Administrator to best support the director on development (fundraising) and on day-to-day activities, contact tracking, and internal & external event planning and execution. Manage YPCCC’s Operations Project Manager on event planning, fellowship management, and external and internal communications and networking.

Supervise the Research Project Manager and the Program Administrator in coordinating development strategy and advancement.

Coordinate with and provide input to YPCCC’s Digital Communications and Partnerships Directors as their work relates to outreach and external relations.
May perform other duties as assigned.
