Job Title: Sustainability Team: Biodiversity Communications Intern
Location: University of Cambridge, Virtually
Duration: 8 weeks long, to be undertaken between July, August and September
Pay/Volunteer: £8.91/hour
Deadline: 9am on Thursday 22 April
Description: This project aims to produce a comprehensive Biodiversity Communications Plan with associated communications materials to improve understanding, increase awareness and gather support for managing the University estate for biodiversity.
The University’s first Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) was published in the autumn of 2020. The BAP was developed by our Ecological Advisory Panel alongside extensive stakeholder engagement. A significant outcome of that engagement with the University’s grounds maintenance teams has resulted in ongoing improvements for biodiversity across the University’s estate. We recognise, as an established institution, the University grounds may be viewed as ‘just lawns and tidy manicured spaces.’ However, there are significant opportunities for managing the grounds for biodiversity across the estate. With any change, appropriate communication is essential. We wish to ensure the wider University have a positive view towards any change.
Tasks may involve engaging with the operational grounds team and wider estates division colleagues, understanding what communications would be supportive going forward, developing a communications plan for biodiversity management, which can be implemented after the internship is completed and producing the communications materials within the communications plan. The intern will be required to produce a high-quality report to go alongside the work undertaken over the 8-week period and present their work to the Sustainability team.
