Description: Background to the event:
Making sure our homes, workplaces and buildings are warm and comfortable uses energy, and a lot of it when buildings are old. To reduce the environmental and socio-economic impact this has on all of us we need to make changes to how we heat, cool and build them, making them fit for the future.

Retrofitting plays a key role to achieve that goal, providing a pathway towards lower-carbon domestic, commercial and community buildings. Not only it has the potential to achieve the UK Net Zero targets, but also to reduce fuel poverty and create a market of skills and jobs worth around £5 billion in Greater Manchester alone. To that end, Greater Manchester Combined Authority recently launched a RetrofitGM action plan to accelerate the regeneration of Greater Manchester’s buildings.

The University of Manchester and The University of Salford have well-established leadership in retrofit and wider sustainable housing sector, building from strong relationships with key actors across Greater Manchester and the UK. Combined, both universities bring a critical mass of academic expertise and capabilities across a wide range of relevant environmental and socio-economic aspects to bear on the complex challenges of sustainable housing.

About the event:
Joining this event, you will have the opportunity to hear about existing and emerging innovative projects, collaboration opportunities to accelerate the transition to more sustainable buildings, and participate in facilitated discussions to explore opportunities and mechanisms to work together and co-develop interventions in green skills, social barriers, material selection, product installation, and quantifying sustainability. There will be plenty of opportunities for networking.

We welcome participants from industry, NGOs and the public sector. We strongly encourage participation from anyone innovating in areas relevant to retrofit and sustainable buildings. If you would like to deliver a short (3-5 mins) pitch to introduce your organisation and what collaboration opportunity within the Retrofit and/or Sustainable Construction sector you are interested in, please indicate that in the registration page.
