Agarose Gel Cooling

After microwaving agarose gel, some scientists cool the liquid by placing it under a tap or in a water bath. Simply swirling the flask of agarose cools it down without the need to water.

Alternatively, if you’re doing a gel below a 2%, mix half of your TAE and all of your weighed agarose and then microwave it. Once clearly in solution and melted, add the other half of your room temperature TAE buffer to cool it down.
**Be careful: If your agarose is bubbling, let it cool a little before mixing in the room temperature TAE. Never to this with cold TAE because mixing hot and cold can cause cause a volcano effect.
