Description: Unitemps are recruiting for 8 current UCL students (undergraduate or postgraduate) or recent graduates to work as Research Assistants to undertake research projects within UCL’s Institute for Sustainable Resources, part of the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment.

We seek to appoint people interested in working on the following topics:

An evidence review of the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of the products and services procured by universities, and measures to reduce these
A review of green energy tariffs and renewable energy guarantees of origin (REGOs) – do they bring about genuine emissions reductions for individuals and organisations?
What are the prospects for net-zero district heating systems in large estates or university campuses?
What are the prospects for reducing energy consumption from institutional buildings – can universities get to net-zero energy?
What are the prospects for reducing embodied carbon, or creating carbon sinks, in the materials from which new university buildings are constructed?
An analysis of the current emissions associated with travel by Bartlett staff and students, and of the options for reducing these.
A horizon scanning of future challenges and opportunities for universities in relation to emissions – which will be the major emissions challenges in the future, and how will technological and behavioural developments affect these?
The promise and pitfalls of carbon offsetting
We also invite students to submit their own proposals of topics not covered by the above, but which also explore contributing factors to the Bartlett’s greenhouse gas emissions footprint, and / or measures that can be taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The rationale and aims of the proposed project must be clearly defined in two or three sentences in the application
