Handwashing
When washing things, don’t just leave the tap running as you walk away. It is much more efficient to scrub glassware then to just let the tap do the work.
Green Your Lab did a test and found manually scrubbing a beaker used 9x less water and 12x less energy.
Washing order
Before using deionized water for the final rinsing stage, it is advisable to rinse bulky glassware or equipment with regular tap water. This initial rinse with tap water helps to remove any visible debris or contaminants from the surface. Once the bulk of the residue is rinsed off, you can proceed with the last stage of rinsing using deionized water, which ensures a high level of purity and minimizes the risk of introducing impurities to the glassware or equipment.
