Description: The Researcher - Circularity will be a member of KieranTimberlake’s Research Group and will work alongside peer-mentor researchers to advance the firm’s pursuit of an environmentally just and healthy built environment. They will be responsible for applying their understanding of material flows, circularity, and materials toxicity to support architectural, planning and research project teams, and their regular activities will encompass the following:
- Applying principles of green design to the creation of building materials and their lifecycle
- Preparing pathways to healthy materials palettes for architectural projects
- Collecting, organizing and synthesizing information on material flows, regional environmental concerns, pollution sources, supply chain equity, and community impacts
- Conducting lifecycle assessments or other forms of environmental and social impact analysis for building materials and their assemblies
- Generating data-driven graphical and statistical analyses associated with impact analysis and assessments
- Participating in technical-review sessions with peer-mentors in environmental research
- Collaborating in design sessions with architectural project teams
- Preparing research proposals for applied and empirical experiments
- Planning and conducting field work and data collection
- Reviewing technical literature in environmental justice, material flows, circular economy, and material health
- Learning new tools, methods, and techniques in environmental analysis
- Collaborating on development of novel tools and workflows
- Supporting KieranTimberlake’s Sustainability Action Plan
- Engaging in interdisciplinary brainstorming sessions and discussions with peer Research Group members across a wide range of topics, including building performance, environmental justice, human health, post-occupancy evaluation, and many others
