**Job Title:** Sustainability Team: Fluorinated Gas Intern  
**Location:** University of Cambridge, Virtually  
**Duration:** 8 weeks long, to be undertaken between July, August and September  
**Pay/Volunteer:** £8.91/hour  
**Deadline:** 9am on Thursday 22 April  
**Description:** The Sustainability Team is looking for an enthusiastic student/recent graduate with interests in quantifying and managing greenhouse gas emissions.

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol covers six greenhouse gases, Carbon, Methane (CH4), Nitrous oxide (N2O), Hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs)_, Perfluorocarbon (PFCs)_, Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)\*. The last three of these are fluorinated (F) gases and are the focus of this project. F gases are in use across the University’s estate in air conditioning units, refrigeration plant and heat pumps; some also have research applications. Information on the use of F gases across the estate does exist but is dispersed and patchy. This project will aim to identify and collate existing information on the use of F gases and assess emissions arising from this usage.

Tasks may involve desk-based research and consultation with University departments, estimating F gas emissions, researching best practice for F gas management and recommending improved processes for reporting F gas emissions. The intern will be required to produce a high-quality report to go alongside the work undertaken over the 8-week period and present their work to the Sustainability team.
