**Job Title:** Research Fellow in Sustainable and Renewable Fibres using Ionic Liquids
**Organization:** University of Leeds
**Location:** Leeds
**Duration:** Fixed Term (24 months, with target start date of 1 June 2021)
**Pay/Volunteer:** £33,797 to £40,322 p.a.
**Deadline:** Wednesday 05 May 2021
**Description:** Applications are invited for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to work with [Dr. Richard Blackburn](https://ahc.leeds.ac.uk/design/staff/199/dr-richard-blackburn) in the School of Design, who is leading the project. The research of Dr. Blackburn focuses on natural products chemistry, polymer chemistry, cellulose chemistry, coloration technology, industrial scale up of chemical processes, and sustainability in textile fibres.

Much sustainability for textiles has focused on what the textile is made from rather than a full life-cycle perspective. The project aims to provide a new sustainable route to convert waste textile materials (primarily cellulose-based) into new materials, thereby reducing consumption of virgin materials and providing a technology that is circular. The only way to recycle cotton and other cellulose-based materials into material of a quality comparable with virgin fibres is through chemical recycling, however, such chemical recycling is not a trivial process and many current cellulose processing methods do not have genuine green credentials.
