**Job Title:** PhD in Sustainable Chemistry
**Organization:** Technical University of Denmark
**Location:** Lyngby, Denmark
**Duration:** 3 years
**Pay/Volunteer:** based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations
**Deadline:** 20 July 2021 (Danish time)
**Description:** A PhD scholarship in Sustainable Chemistry is available within the Centre for Catalysis and Sustainable Chemistry at DTU Chemistry. You will work with combining fermentative biotechnology and heterogeneous catalysis for making green aviation fuels from CO2 as part of a collaboration between DTU Chemistry, DTU Biosustain (Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability) and international partner universities. The project is funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark. You will join an international environment applying an application-oriented research strategy to develop novel chemistry and processes with the potential to secure the future for the next generations in terms of energy, resources and the environment.

You will be involved in fermentative production of oxygenates from CO2 using engineered bacteria. You will also be responsible for developing heterogeneous catalysts for conversion of oxygenates to hydrocarbon fuels and downstream integration of the catalysis with the fermentation process. During the project you will be expected to learn the basics of engineering and expressing metabolic pathways of bacteria and develop and test heterogeneous catalyst systems in both batch and continuous-flow.
